Exzenter, the talking Jyarimon head, wandered around the town with no actual purpose in mind. Sometimes he'd stop and lick the egg goop off his large red ears. he'd hatched only recently and getting around without arms or legs was a literal headache. He was envious of all the digimon in the town who had limbs. How did the do it? How did they digivolve? By eating? By fighting? He paused in an alley way to let his long, flexible tongue work its way around the outer edge of one of his ears, soaking up the goop still coating it. One day he'd digivolve. One day this talking head would have a body to go with it.

Meanwhile, a DemiDevimon had just flew back in from areas outside the town. While she had done her fair share of exploring, she still considered the town to be a good place to rest. Her friend, Gerrant, was not around at the moment and she decided that sleeping alone in the forest might not be the best course of action. She has already seen a random attack from a Wormon not too long ago. As some say "Err on the side of caution."
It also helped that her mild autophobia would make trying to sleep alone in the forest a less than pleasant experience.
However, the fairly long flight had left her kind of tired. As she landed, she sighed as she folded her wings in and began to slowly tap her lizard tail against the ground as she decided what to do. She wasn't particularly hungry, so perhaps she would just take a stroll around.

The talking Jyarimon head tried rolling around as a means of getting about, though his ears always got in the way and he hated kissing the gravel. He needed a body fast. Jumping up and down was nothing short of exhausting. But a body would require digivolvolution, and that meant fighting others. Okay, but first he needed an attack. He tried to think of some and was unprepared for the fiery bubbles that shot out of his mouth. There was one but as a freshly hatched digimon he doubted he had any more attacks to throw the enemy's way. He wasn't completeley non-violent, but fighting other digimon as just a head would be an impossible task. He needed another way. He was still focused on his predicament when he suddenly bumped into a pair of legs.

So she took her stroll through the area, imagining all the possibilities she had.
She could continue on to be a famous singer. She has yet to see one who seriously sang like she did. If she was first, she would go down in history. Not even first, she just had to get in early enough. Oh the fame! But she still needed to practice!
Or perhaps she could be a professional villain. This was her plan B but, considering what kind of digimon she was it kinda came with the territory. But no world destruction. She wanted someone to rule. And maybe heroes to fight. A nice continent would do nicely.
In the middle of her thoughts, some digimon bumped into her. Given her size she almost thought it was on purpose. She was a DemiDevimon with a lizard tail, still small by Rookie standards. But this little digimon was probably just not paying attention.
"Hey, watch where you're going. You're gonna get stepped on if you're not careful."
After she started to walk on, she was thinking of other ideas... perhaps she could be a famous villain AND a singer..,

Exzenter immediately jumped back, afraid the other digimon would take it as an attack and retaliate. He paid no attention to her warning only because his attention was now focused on her appendages. She'd obviously digivolved at least once. And she might tell him how. Not that he didn't know at least one way. Fighting seemed the best option to get the necessary data.
But he didn't want to fight for it. He hoped her answer wasn't that. Exzenter was too peaceful to engage another digimon in battle and even if he did, how was he going to win? He was just a head after all. A head with a single attack. Hopefully there was another way. Though it seemed unlikely. But if it was, then he'd go for it. He was going to digivolve even if it meant doing something he loathed. The other digimon though, was already walking away. "Excuse me" he asked as he bounced behind her "Did you have to fight to digivolve?"

Beverly's thoughts did not go too far as the digimon called out to her. He asked her advice on digivolution. Specifically if he had to fight to reach a higher stage. Kind of a silly question but, hey, this guy was young, so she would not old it against him. Besides, she had saw her friend digivolve right in front of her. Twice, even, and once involved no fighting whatsoever.
"Heh heh... digivolving at your level is rather easy, really. But some combat is, most times, needed to reach higher form. However, it might not be necessary. But if you really want to digivolve quickly..." the DemiDevimon began to walk slowly ti the talking head of a digimon, giving a devious smirk to add to her hopes of giving a threatening demeanor. "...you can fight me, and hope you last long enough to digivolve before I rend your data bit by bit, violently... slowly. And then... I will consume your data, making me stronger. You'd, however, make a poor meal, but data is data. Sweet... delicious data that makes me do THIS!!"
She suddenly chomped. She didn't bite anything and actually did not attempt to hurt him. But she turned around and laughed heartily. "Hahahaha, but don't worry, I'm not gonna really hurt you. I just wanted to scare you."

The Digimon started to approach him. But her advance was menacing. If it wasn't for his desire to digivolve, he wouldn't even be here. Though he was bouncing back with every slow step she took towards him. He shuddered. His life was about to end. His data would be consumed even before he'd had a chance to digivolve, before he'd even set foot outside of town. There was so much he wanted to accomplish. She'd answered his question but in doing so had apparently decided he was easy bait. Exzenter could do like she said and try to fight back, but he only had the one attack. And she had the advantage of legs! She could simply pick him up in her talons and drop him from high up. The talking head bounced back as fast as he could. He didn't want to give up, didn't want to give in, but his life was forfeit...Suddenly she gnashed her teeth together and he screamed, a loud, high pitched keen. This was it, he was done for...
It was all a joke, just a twisted comedy at his expense. She was laughing, laughing at him, at his gullibility. He didn't know what to say. A sudden surge of emotion made him wish he could reprimand her, but he was just a head and she might take her threat seriously if he did.
The digimon seemed about ready to leave him again, and he would've let her, but this might be his only chance to get an answer. His next attempt could result in an actual fight. He asked again, in a shy voice, too terrified by her scare to speak any louder, "So...uh...could...you show me...?"

It was a nice gag, Beverly thought. Oh the scream he gave was hilarious, it totally made her day. She was, indeed, ready to leave, but that Jyarimon still wanted her help. He was scared half to death, though, but she was surprised he still asked her. Turning back around, she looked at him for a few moments.
"Show you? How? I told you, at this point you'll digivolve easily if you set your mind at it. Unless you really want me to fight you. But I don't really feel like fighting at the moment."
She turned around and began to walk off again. "You're free to follow me if you want, I guess. I got nothing to do, if you want a spar maybe a bit later I'll be up for it."
She wasn't too sure what to make of this guy. But she saw no harm in him tagging along. But she wanted to get to a nice place to rest at first. And maybe think about her future some more. Or spar, it depended on how she feels at the time.
"The name is Beverly. What's yours?" She suddenly asked. Might as well get his name too.

The Jyarimon bounced along after her, trusting her not to destroy him, but still wary from the recent scare earlier. His excitement was overcoming his fear however. Her answer was a blessing. No fighting! But how could he digivolve by just setting his mind to it? Perhaps treating it like a personal mantra would finally trigger some effect on his body. Digivolve he thought over and over again as he bounced after the other digimon. Somehow he was able to keep it going as he answered her question. "Uh no, that's okay, I'm just a talking head, I can't fight." He wasn't sure where she was going, but a naturally adventurous guy like him didn't care where he ended up. He knew, once he'd digivolved, he wasn't going to stay in town. He intended to go where life pushed him. Like accepting Beverly's invitation to follow her, to wherever she was headed. "E-Exzenter" He replied. Where were they headed anyways?

Bev had no real idea as to where she was headed. She was simply heading to somewhere she could rest. She chuckled at Exzenter's claim of being unable to fight.
"All digimon can fight. It's just a matter of how able you are at fighting. At your level, you suck at fighting. You'll suck horribly, but you aren't unable to fight. Or maybe it's better to say you can at least attempt to defend yourself.
Anyway... hmm..."
Bev looked up at a nice tree with a low hanging branch. She flew up to it, and then hung upside down off it, closing her eyes for a few moments. After that, she opened them again, moving over a bit.
"Yes, this branch will do. Anyway, Exzenter... why don't you just work out? Exert yourself? If you're gonna act all fearfuo then there's no reason to even try to digivolve. And don't say you have no idea what to do. I'm basically a talking head with wings, feet, and a tail and I know plenty what to do with myself if I wanted to work out. You could at least think of something.
Or I could throw darts at you. Your call."

Exzenter doubted he'd be bad as a fighter, he just hated the thought of doing it. Beverly seemed to be heading to nowhere in particular, and he followed, bouncing as fast as he could, though it was a chore. He repeated his mental mantra but it didn't seem to be doing anything.
She'd settled for a tree and he decided to stay in that area. If she moved again, he'd follow, she didn't seem to mind before. For now he could do as she said and exercise. He started jumping up and down in place, keeping his jumps in rhythm with his mantra.
"No thanks, I'm doing fine."

"Alright. Slow way it is." Bev was a wee bit disappointed at not being able to throw darts at him. Not that she intended to hit him at all, but it would have been fun. Oh well, he can exercise on his own. As he bounced up and down, Bev just hung upside down, her eyes closed as her wings wrapped around her body. And then, she began to hum a tune. Not as simple as a normal hummed tune, as she was, well, trying to compose something on the fly. The humming might be loud enough for Exzenter to hear, but she didn't make sure.
After a few minutes, she stopped, unfurled her wings, and looked at the Jyarimon.
"So, what do you think of the tune? Does it need any work? More tempo? BPM? Anything? Or were you too busy, which is understandable?"

He repeated the training regimen and his mantra for another minute. He stopped. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. He was still just a head! What had gone wrong? He'd done everything right! Something, some outside influence must've distracted him. He flashed back to the exercise. Some noise had penetrated his thoughts. A humming sound. Yes! That was it! That's why he couldn't digivolve! Some distraction had halted the process. Beverly had been singing and he'd lost focus as a result.
What did he think of the tune? "It's okay". He wasn't an expert in music so BPM was a term foreign to him. But she'd already threatened his life once and insulting her would only make it a reality. He wanted to find a nice spot alone to try again, but she was the closest to protection he could get. Another encounter might be far less friendly. His only option was do it again. He hoped the tune had been the cause. What if he simply couldn't digivolve? He'd be stuck as just a talking head for the rest of his life!
